quick movie reviews and world tour update....... after the darjeeling limited opened the new york film festival last friday, leonard, liz, norman, stephanie, t and i went to the regular not filthy rich but still slightly privileged and snobby people opening on saturday. it was only playing in two cities in the states and in new york, it was only playing in two theatres. luckily for us, it was playing at the theatre we frequent. it was quickly sold out so our friends dave and susan could not join us. leonard might have thought i was a nut for snagging tickets on thursday but it paid off as t shows off her other booty.
the complaint of the movie was that it was more of the same...like its a bad thing. do critics mean.....more of the same magic from wes anderson? yes! its quirky and a bit weird but magical all the same. critics are somewhat obsessed with seeing or feeling something new...i'm content with the same magic. what's also the same is that wes anderson characters still speak the truth....stuff you never hear out loud but what people are feeling inside and afraid to speak and be so vulnerable; so it rings true though you've never heard people talk like this before. wes' movies reflect a world that is off center.....and it turns out that the world is ours.
i also got to see this, this week:
the assassination of jesse james by the coward robert ford......if you don't like slow epic movies where little happens, don't go see this movie. if you do like watching people especially people you rarely get to meet like the psychopath and robber jesse james, this will be a treat. it was very beautiful to watch.....the timing surreal. but i can't recommend it to most people because they will be bored.
